Subject: [Tweeters] Northern Saw-whet Owl BIG YEAR

This fall is appearing to be the largest Northern Saw-whet Owl migration in
terms of numbers in recent times, and they are just now arriving in the
Puget Sound area.

Over 550 have been banded in 45 days at Rocky Point, BC (across from Port
Angeles), and they are only halfway through the season. They will easily
squash their previous season high of 636.

85% of the birds are HY (Hatch Year) birds, meaning that there was a very
successful breeding season.
