Hi Tweets,

John Gatchet (Portland/Gardiner) and I arrived at Hansville at about
the same time mid-afternoon today. The plovers were on the beach just
south of the park boundary sign, located where they could be seen very
well with scopes. We pooled our optical resources and we found the
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, a somewhat pale bird. We saw it spread its
wings in flight and noted the absence of the black axillaries that are
seen on the Black-bellied Plovers. It appeared just slightly smaller
than the Black-bellied Plovers. When its back was to us we could see
the white spots on the feathers in contrast to the white edges on the
feathers of the Black-bellieds. The supercilium did not seem to be all
that bold but the mottled breast was in striking contrast to the Black-
bellieds. So it's still around if you want to go for it. The seas
were as flat as I've ever seen them this afternoon and it clearly felt
like summer, even if it is the last hurrah.
