After seeing the Wilson's plover sun and mon., I thought to check out local spots.
It was a "you know it's winter when you see" day...
Eide was a good day for raptors. 1 each of MERLIN,COOPERS HAWK, N. HARRIER AND SHORT EARED OWL(at 12:05 pm).also saw GREATER YELLOW LEGS,KILLDEERS, LB DOWITCHERS .,WESTERN SANDPIPERS.GREEN WINGED TEALS,MALLARDS.
MANY YELLOW RUMPED WARBLERS,SONG SPARROWS.as I left my last bird of prey was
A NORTHERN SHRIKE.also saw a few SNOW GEESE while peering over the dike.Plus NORTHERN FLICKERS AND BLACK CAPPED CHICKADEES.,2 HORNED GREBES in the channel.
At fisher slough were many GR.YELLOWLEGS,KILLDEER ,LD DOWITCHERS .ALso AMERICAN WIGEONS,MALLARDS,N.SHOVELLERS.several EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES AND ROCK PIGEONS along the way.countlesss E.STARLINGS and RWBLACKBIRDS In formations.
Hayden thousands of SNOW GEESE,1 HOODED MERGANSER in the channel.There was a female N.HARRIER walking along a freshly cut row of hay in the same field as the SNOWGEESE.pretty soon she pulled out what looked like a small bird and started plucking all the feathers from it?!
Wylie there were many A.ROBINS,SONG SPARROWS,HOUSE FINCHYR WARBLERS,CEDAR WAXWINGS ,a few BC CHICKADEES And a small flock of GOLD CROWNED KINGLETS.1 WHITE CROWNED SPARROW. 1 GOLDFINCH. ,1SPOTTED TOWHEE.,DARKEYED JUNCO. A very dark PEREGRINE FALCON preened itself on a bare tree.
Also noted were, a pair of BALD EAGLES,,GBHERONS,BELTED KINGFISHERSA.WIGEONS,WOOD DUCKS,MALLARDS,N.SHOVELLERS,GW TEALS,PIED BILLED GREBE,G.YELLOWLEGS,LB.DOWS.,DOWNYWOODPECKER,a lone RN PHEASANT in the holding pens.
The numbers of birds was impressive especially at Wylie !
in our yard were ANNAS HUMMINGBIRD,JUNCOS,BC CHICKADEES,STELLERS JAYS,PILEATED WOODPECKER,In Tulalip bay BLACKBELLIED PLOVERS,WESTERN GULLS,RINGBILLED GULLS,HORNED GREBES,DC CORMORANTS,CANADA GEESE,BELTED KINGFISHER
