Yesterday I headed over to the coast for a some birding with the
first stop being (of course) Grayland Beach State Park. The WILSON'S
PLOVER was with a small group of 7 SNOWY PLOVERS and 3 Sanderlings
just south of Beach Trail #3. There was another group of 16 SNOWY
PLOVERS and 2 Sanderlings at Beach Trail #5.
At North Cove there was a PEREGRINE FALCON perched in a snag
overlooking a large gull flock on the beach. I stopped and scanned
through the gulls as well as getting great looks at the peregrine.
My stop at Midway Beach was productive with 18 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS,
a NORTHERN SHRIKE (chowing down on a large dragonfly), a few small
flocks of AMERICAN PIPIITS, and a very dark PEREGRINE FALCON flying
over (this was a super nice looking bird).
Finally while at the Hoquiam Sewage Ponds scanning through the
hoards of ducks I had another PEREGRINE FALCON calling as it flew
over.
