Gray's Harbor Shorebird Survey (GHSS)
Help count shorebirds if shorebirds count to you!

The GHSS is a regional survey of the larger Pacific Flyway Shorebird Survey (PFSS), a multi-partner monitoring program led by PRBO Conservation Science. The goal is to inform management and conservation of wintering shorebirds in the Pacific Flyway. Annual winter survey data are entered online and stored in the California Avian Data Center.

Together with our local partners at the US Fish and Wildlife Service, we will be surveying Gray's Harbor this winter and we are looking for Citizen Scientists to participate!

Want to participate? Here's what you will need:
* Have their own optics (binoculars and scope) and possess reliable transportation
* Be physically able to walk long-distances carrying scope and tripod through difficult forest conditions or in very muddy sediment to reach your view site.
* Be willing to work 4-6 hours in the field in what may be inclement weather conditions
* Be willing to follow a protocol to count birds
* Be comfortable entering data online into CADC
* Have a passion for and dedication to shorebird conservation

Time commitment: 3 days
* Training Day: Attend a protocol training session and get your site assignment; Saturday Oct. 20th
* Scouting Day: Become familiar with your assigned site. Make sure you know how to access your site, and how long it takes to get there and set up to survey. Become familiar with how large the viewing area is. Do this on your own.
* Survey and Data Entry Day: One day between November 15th and December 15th.
