Hello, all.

An immature Western Tanager just visited our fountain, much to my pleasure. That seems a bit late, and it prompts me to report other birds.

The Mourning Dove I first reported on 30 September is still in the yard every day, delightful to catch glimpses of it when it appears from out of nowhere. I don't know what there is about doves and pigeons, but it always looks a little befuddled. I hope it's good at watching out for cats and Cooper's Hawks.

A Red-breasted Sapsucker was in the yard today, not the same bird as the Red-breasted x Red-naped that was here on 1 October. They are on the move.

The first Golden-crowned Sparrow appeared yesterday 10 October, the first Townsend's Warbler 9 October, the first Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2 October. The first wave of juncos hit about a week ago, and they seem to keep building up. There is a lot more activity in the yard than a few weeks ago, almost as if the birds know winter is just around the corner.
