Hello,

Thursday, I was joined by two friends, Richard Kirk and Luke Safford, for
one final trip to the north mountains of Pend Oreille County.

We began the day along the river road at the Kalispell Indian Reservation.
Heavy fog prevented us from viewing the river, but we did find a HORNED
LARK (code 3), on the road. Long billed Dowtichers were seen at Riverbend.

At Bunchgrass Meadows, we found 8 BOREAL CHICKADEES, a Brown Creeper, a
very cooperative AMERICAN THREE TOED WOODPECKER and a juvenile GOLDEN
EAGLE. Coming back down Harvey Creek Rd, Luke spotted a female SPRUCE
GROUSE with two young male chicks (mp 6.5). A little lower we found a
Ruffed Grouse.

Sullivan Lake hosted Western, Red necked, and Horned Grebe and two American
Dippers. Along Sullivan Creek Rd we found many Varied Thrush and a Sharp
shinned Hawk and enjoyed nice looks at a Black Bear.

Up on Mt Salmo, we found two more flocks of BOREAL CHICKADEES, one flock of
two at the pass and three more at the parking lot of the Salmo Divide
Trail. Also at the parking lot was PINE GROSBEAK. A Gray Jay was spotted
near the summit. After dark, we had responses from 4 different BOREAL OWLS.
A curious cow moose joined us on the road while we were looking for the
owls.

Today, I birded Stevens County. Early this morning, I found a female WHITE
WINGED SCOTER on Deer Lake and a Northern Pygmy Owl. At a pond along Hwy
231 south of Valley were 5 GREATER WHITE FRONTED GEESE. I found four more
White fronts on Betteridge Rd and 8 Northern Rough Legged Hawks (fos),
Coopers and Sharp shinned Hawks were seen as well. American Pipits were
along Farm to Market Rd.

At the Colville STP were four Long billed Dowtichers, 3 Pectoral
Sandpipers, and a Merlin.

Blessings
