Hi Tweets,

Stan and I were joined by two other birders at this monthly bird walk offered by Eastside Audubon at Lake Sammamish State Park from 8 am to noon . We were dressed in layers and mud boots for a weather forecast of 30% chance of rain, increasing winds and temps in the low 50's. We had not a drop of rain! Skys were a bit cloudy at first, and we enjoyed more and more sun breaks as the morning progressed. And, did I mention, no rain! Temps ranged from 53 to 58 degrees, winds were mild at about 6 mph, and the blue, sunny sky was shared with some patchy clouds. Highlights: flocks of both Canada and CACKLING GEESE flew over while vocalizing; 1 COMMON LOON; 3 RED-NECKED GREBES; 17 WESTERN GREBES; 1 SPOTTED SANDPIPER; 1 RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER, 1 immature NORTHERN SHRIKE perched up high in a small, bare deciduous tree in the south meadow just to the west of and right near Issaquah Creek; 3 VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS (!); 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER; and 2 TOWNSEND'S WARBLERS. 52 species for the day. Next bird walk is Monday, Nov 19. No pre-registration required....just show up. A Discover Pass is required since this is a state park.
