A little before noon on Monday (10/15) I?saw a juvenile northern shrike perched on the top of?the fir tree?near the?western viewing platform of the marsh where Wesley (the west end Anna's hummer)?usually perches.? This is only the second time I have seen a shrike in town.? The first time was two years ago on the Unoco grounds between the?marsh and Pt. Edwards, about a hlaf mile straight south as the shrike flies. This may have been the?same bird that Carol Riddle recently reported?seeing at?the marsh.?

Later that afternoon my friend Terry and I saw a lone Bonaparte's gull floating in the Sound off the fishing pier.?? As we walked from the pier back towards the marina, something started making strange waves inside the marina.?? It turned out to be a school of large fish, presumably returning salmon which?have been?raised in the fish cage which hangs from the fishing pier in the spring.?? ??
