I could be wrong, but it looks like an impact injury rather than avian pox ( See http://www.unbc.ca/nlui/wildlife_diseases_bc/avian_pox.htm ). It could have flown into something, rather than being ill. At least we can hope that is so.
Most Song Sparrows are resident, so watch to see if it develops warty-like growth around that eye, and maybe the other. Also watch to see if it is all puffed up when other birds around it are not.
Right now, from these two pictures it looks like it is doing fine, and not having any trouble eating. Sparrows are pretty hardy, and don't usually get avian pox--finches are the most likely candidates.
