Season's first wigeon (for me at least) at Lake Hills Greenbelt (LHG) this
morning, a "baker's dozen", 12 American and one adult male Eurasian on
Phantom Lake viewed (scoped) from the wooden deck accessible from the parking
area, east side of 156th Ave SE, one block south of 16th Ave SE. I've
scanned through the usual wintering 50-150 American Wigeons off and on for
years here and the adjacent farm fields in an always futile search for the odd
Eurasian until finally, this morning this way overdue train pulls in,
yea!!. The 13 wigeon when seen at about 0750hrs was just off the shore on the
south side of Phantom Lake in line with the second largish lawn area to the
left (east). Unfortunately, they didn't last long and just up and left
unprovoked by anything obvious after about ten minutes, but could always come
back I suppose. For the 3-mile LHG loop walk this morning, 1.9hrs, 35
species, 76 now for the month of October.
