Subject: [Tweeters] Fill goings on

Hey tweets, today was made glorious by a vee of 48 Snow Geese tootling
their way south over the Fill, their white feathers so purely white as
to make the very clouds themselves blush.

Yesterday, a juvenile Northern Shrike was found by Doug Parrott in
Hunn Meadow West, a different bird from our weekend visitor, who was
an adult. Also on view for the lucky few was a confused Northern Saw-
whet Owl that got itself trapped in the atrium, the glass-enclosed
structure abutting the inner sanctum of the CUH buildings. I didn't
see the little cutie, but those who did will never forget it. Luckily,
it was helped to the great outdoors again by a kindly human.

As best as I can tell, we have seen a total of 160 species at the Fill
this year, and we still have two more months to go. The best year we
ever had (as long as I have been keeping records) was 172 in 2009.

If anyone out there in Tweetersville has seen the following birds,
please let me know (some are still possible for us to find!):
Red-breasted Merganser
Lesser Yellowlegs
Ring-necked Pheasant (the gardener employees say they've seen one
around Corporation Yard, but they also had a wolverine too, so hmm)
Barn Owl
Great Horned Owl
Red-breasted Sapsucker
Say's Phoebe
Cassin's Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Hermit Thrush
Chipping Sparrow
American Tree Sparrow
Vesper Sparrow
Clay-colored Sparrow
Bullock's Oriole
Red Crossbill

And keep our fingers crossed for: Cattle Egret, Tropical Kingbird,
Palm Warbler, Rough-legged Hawk, and really weird rarities (my
personal choice would be a White Pelican). - Connie, Seattle
