Just went out to the garden with a flashlight to pick chard for dinner.
Halfway down the stairs I heard a sound that raised the hairs on the
back of my neck; looked up to see a shape disappear behind the trees.
Owl shape. Years ago I lived on a farm down on the Oregon coast. There
was a barn, and the barn supported a pair of Barn Owls. Their calls
always raised the hairs on the back of my neck. Came back in and
listened to Barn Owl calls on line. This call was definitely the same.

There were reports of a Barn Owl in Seward Park this summer, only a
couple of miles away. The thought of one hanging out in the yard leaves
me gobsmacked. I've been in this house since 1976 and have never seen
nor heard an owl.
