Hi Tweets...A big thanks to Sherry Hagen for posting this bird!
Following a day in Aberdeen and ending the training session at Bottle
Beach SP, I separated from the group and headed out to Westport. I
parked in front of the Harbor Resort, walked out onto the walkway to
the docks...and it was immediately easily visible in the water between
the back of the resort cabins and the next wall SE of the
point...there is a bright orangish triangle with an 8 on it on the end
of that wall.

I went back to get my scope and ran into fellow birder Igor (sorry,
don't remember the last name) just heading back out with his (big
honkin') video camera, who verified that was indeed the eider...so
easily found. After I had watched it a while, the young couple renting
Cabin 15, invited me to watch from their deck...seems there had been
many requests to do so! They were a bit bemused at the fuss being made
over this particular duck, but were interested enough to take some
nice long looks through my scope. I never pass up the chance to give
newby's a chance to look at birds through the scope; it's great PR!

The duck spent most of the time I was there with its head tucked under
its back feathers, but once in a while would look around...most like
the 1st yr male photo on Pg 68 of the Crossley I.D. Guide. Lovely
duck, and I'm glad I got to see it. Now for the Wilson's Plover.....
