Hello all,
Just returned home after a very successful "chase" to Westport - great looks at the eider yesterday evening and again this morning. Thanks to Sherry Hagen for locating and posting its discovery!!
Sat. evening there was a Northern Fulmar sitting in the water just off the fishing pier west of the eider.
Enjoyed great views of the "second" Wilson's Plover with 15 Snowy Plovers thanks to Bob and Chris who had it in scopes when we arrived. Pulled up at Tokeland when Ruth, Lonnie and Barb were looking at the Hudsonian Godwit 20 ft. away - too bad it has a bum leg.
On our way out yesterday we stopped at a flooded field west of Walla Walla where over 100 Wilson's Snipe, 5 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Dunlin and 1 Long-billed Dowitcher were feeding. A LOT of snipe in one spot!
Down the gorge we stopped at Bonneville Fish Hatchery and Mike found a Rusty Blackbird - in OR but could fly across into WA. It was fun to run into so many of Washington's birders out in the field. So we saw two new Pacific Co. birds to us - the Wilson's Plover and the Hudsonian Godwit. The lifer was the Common Eider!
