The Evening Grosbeak and Juncos returned to my feeders last week in
increasing numbers. Kimberly Mason, also here in Cinebar, reported in
the Chronicle that Pine Siskins had returned to her feeders, also, but I
have seen none here yet.

An unusual occurrence this week was the appearance of three Nuthatches at
the feeders at the same time. Never previously have I seen more than
one at a time. There are many more Black Caps and Chestnut Backed
Chickadees, also, and they all three tend to use only my new hanging
cage style sunflower seed feeders now, so that may be what has attracted
the increase.

Usually, there are goldfinch on the feeders outside my bedroom window
when I open the curtains in the morning, but not so this week. Since it
is October, I assume that means they are gone again! I cannot figure
out why they leave here in the winter, but stay at Ridgefield. Is there
really that much difference in our temperatures.
