Subject: [Tweeters] Birding in Oaxaca

Birding is slow in Oaxaca and new birds are hard to come by, with one exception. It has been a protracted rainy season here, it is basically over now, but still rains at night a little. The upshot of this is that the flower banks in the mountains are a profusion of different species of salvia, geranium, lobelia, paintbrush and oxalis. So nine or ten hummingbird species are zipping about up there. We are off to the Sierra de Miahuatlan, which is a center of endemism, to look for hummingbirds, including Blue-capped, White-tailed, Cinnamon, Doubleday's and Golden-crowned Emerald.
The great thing, if fellow Tweets are interested, is that I have found a great young local guide, very reasonably priced, (courtesy of Georgia Conti) and a delightful B & B in a village close to the city and the major highways. If anyone is interested I would be pleased to email them the details. And no I am not getting a cut from any of this, nor do there seem to be any narcos in the state!!! Best, Dave
