Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 25. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On October 21 a BLUE JAY was seen 15 miles south of Burns. A MCCOWN?S
LONGSPUR was photographed October 19 at Borax Lake north of Fields. A
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was photographed October 18 at Coos Bay.

ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS and NORTHERN SHRIKES arrived during the week. There were
several reports of lowland sightings of MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES. Numerous SURF
SCOTERS were seen during the week at Cascade and eastern Oregon lakes and
reservoirs.

An offshore boat trip out of Newport October 20 found many migrants
including 225 FULMARS, 75 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, nine SHORT-TAILED
SHEARWATERS, and four RED PHALAROPES. At Boiler Bay that day were 5000
PACIFIC LOONS, 10,000 FULMARS, 1200 BROWN PELICANS, 6000 SURF SCOTERS, and
1500 HEERMANN?S GULLS. On October 22 a SNOW BUNTING was at Flores Lake. At
least four TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were in the Coos Bay area October 20. Another
was at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River the same day.

A group of ten TUNDRA SWANS were on Sauvie Island October 22. Off Hayden
Island in North Portland October 24 were 39 WESTERN GREBES, 20 LESSER SCAUP,
and two WESTERN GULLS. At nearby Smith/Bybee Lakes were 79 BONEPARTE?S
GULLS. On October 19 a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at the Fernhill Wetlands.

On October 18 a HEERMANN?S GULL was at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend. Two
PACIFIC LOONS were there October 21. A PACIFIC LOON was on the Island City
Sewage Ponds north of LaGrande October 23.
