Getting lots of interesting and VARIED suggestions on what kind of egg this
is.

I dug out my Peterson's field guide to western nests and eggs C1979 (has
this been updated or is there a better guide?) and I'd say this egg is
short-pyriform shaped according to the guide. It weighs 36 grams and its
dimensions are approximately 5 cm long and 4 cm at its widest point. I
weighed the smallest chicken egg in my refrigerator and it was 42 grams and
I have a picture of the two together for comparison if you're interested.

It's got to be reasonably fresh. It's completely intact - no cracks. We've
had below freezing temps at night for the last couple of weeks and snow on
the ground a couple days ago. There are lots of predators on this hill
including weasel, black bear, coyote, bobcat and cougars; not to mention
domestic dogs - many of those would have been happy to eat an egg that
showed up in their path. Don't you think?

Still taking suggestions.

Looking at images of eggs (via Google), one possibility would seem to be a
Wild Turkey egg:

I could not find reports of them laying this time of year.

I found an egg on my morning walk and I wonder if anyone can identify it.
