I saw a Short-eared Owl over Volunteer Park, Seattle at about 11am on Thursday spiraling up (sort of a powered soar) harassed by crows (or harassing crows -- difficult to tell in a spiral). Headed off the top of the "thermal" northwest. Perhaps to better habitat at Montlake?
Not a Barred Owl that you might expect to see in Volunteer Park: not stocky and not short tailed; light flight like a Harrier (thought it was a raptor with naked eye); buff patches on outer underwings clearly visible.
A first for me from VP. In fact, a first Short-eared Owl in Seattle for me.
Amused to see a Hermit Thrush and Varied Thrush in same binocular field too in VP. There are lots of "Pumpkin thrushes" around for Halloween.
