Although I always look for?the marsh's resident phantom,?the Virginia rail, during my nearly daily visits, I probably only see it once?every hundred?times.????The best?time to see it is during high tide when the marsh fills up with water and the rail is driven to higher ground at the north edge of the marsh near the sidewalk.???

Friday (10/26) was one of those lucky days.? In a radical departure from its normal behavior, the rail remained visible for several minutes instead of making?its usual ghostly cameo appearance?before disappearing into the cattails. ?
