hi:

there was a single common loon on sikes lake today during the lunch hour,
visible from the trestle bridge over the lake. tried to make it another
loon, but although it did not appear to have any white around the eyes, the
neck was patterned and the chest and neck as visible from the front was a
startling, stark white, and it was a large bird. no white visible on the
sides and the back had a distinct pattern. mostly floating around, but
occasionally it would dive as if it were thinking of doing something else
and chose to dive instead. once it raised up w/ wings extended and leapt
forward and 'flew' into the water.

also a mixed flock of white cheeked geese is starting to hang around camp
korey. both canada and cackling geese are represented. one might get some
interesting looks at several subspecies in close proximity to each other
once they settle in.
