Subject: [Tweeters] Gulf of Tonquin Resolution yesterday

A group of birders (including The Bjorklands, Bruce LaBar, Scott Mills
and others) didn't see the Lesser Sandy yesterday. Some were around
since 10 in the morning and there was one that was still resolute when I
left around 3:00. Other good birds around included at least one
Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Baird's Sandpiper, a Wilson's Phalarope, many
Pec's, many Red-necked Phalaropes, one American Golden Plover and a
couple of Semi-palm Sandpipers. I missed the Stilt Sandpiper(s) that
were there earlier.
One Western Sandpiper still mostly attired in beautiful breeding plumage
was hopping around on a grotesquely broken leg that was dangling loosely
from the body. As the bird was hopping the leg was bent back over the
back of the bird. Amazing how long the leg was.
A war perpetrated by 2 Peregrine's on the flock of shorebird's was quite
a spectacle. They took turns straffing the flock for close to 20
minutes. The last birder standing was able to get what looked like
fabulous footage from a fairly close diatance. Would love to see that
posted.
I didn't see the Avocet at the sewage ponds. Other's who had tried for
the Hudsonian Godwit had seen it after 10 in the morning at Bottle
Beach.
All the best
