Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 6. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On August 31 a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was at Calliope Crossing north of
Sisters. A MANX SHEARWATER was off Cape Arago September 3. At Malheur NWR
during the week were a STILT SANDPIPER and two SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS at
the Narrows and a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WIHTE
WARBLER, and a RESTART at Headquarters. On September 2 a NORTHERN PARULA was
at Fields.

Very heavy migrations continued during the week including many thousands of
SOOTY SHEARWATERS along the coast and good evening migrations of SWAINSON?S
THRUSHES, especially on August 31.

During the week several hundred ELEGANT TERNS were along the south coast to
Brookings. Three were photographed August 31 at Seaside. On September 2 a
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was at New River. The next day a SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPER was at Bandon. On AUGUST 31 an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was at the
south jetty of the Siuslaw River. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER was there
September 3. Among the many migrants on Cascade Head September 4 were 500
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, 50 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 300 PINE SISKINS, and a
LAPLAND LONGSPUR. A BOBOLINK was there September 2. On August 30 two STILT
SANDPIPERS were at Beaver Creek south of Newport. Two BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPERS remained all week at the mouth of the Necanicum River at
Gearhart.

On September 1 twelve COMMON TERNS were on the Columbia River near the
Portland Airport. Two GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS were on Mt. Tabor in east
Portland September 5. Among the many birds at the Fernhill Wetlands August
31 were two SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, seven BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS, two STILT
SANDPIPERS, five PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and a WHITE PELICAN. On September 2 a
BROAD-WINGED HAWK was in Corvallis. A SABINE?S GULL was seen August 31 at
Fern Ridge Reservoir. On September 2 a STILT SANDPIPER and five SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS were among the many shorebirds there.
