Today, Susan and I were watching the heavy flow of warblers, vireos and flycatchers through our woods on Mt. Pleasant, at the west end of the Columbia River Gorge, despite the strong winds and eye-watering smoke from the fire in Klickitat County. As I was peering into the Cascara trees at thrushes and Western Tanagers, Susan drew my attention to a hawk that was only about 200" over our heads, a well marked SWAINSON'S HAWK, my first in this county.
