Yesterday morning I had the opportunity to do some kayaking on Union Bay. While sitting quietly watching a wren flit among the cattails a green heron landed nearby. For 20 to 30 minutes I watched as the heron went through its morning ritual of grooming and stretching before finally calmly retiring into the cattails. If you would like to see the photos of this experience they are at:

By the way the heron appears to have a piece of green, living vine wrapped around its left leg. I thought may be it was entangled in a fishing line, but I really do not see any sign of a line or hook. Has anyone else ever seen anything like this?
