*As a follow-up to Gary's posting about the Osprey vs. Peregrine, here's a recent, odd observation of my own.

I've been monitoring nesting species on the upper stretches of Whatcom Creek, in Bellingham's Whatcom Falls Park, for some time. In particular, I've been keeping tabs on the nesting pair of Barred Owls and their 5 offspring from the past two years.
I've become used to hearing/seeing a variety of smaller birds harassing the owls, including chickadees, crows, Steller's Jays and robins. Yesterday morning, I was taken aback to see a Belted Kingfisher noisily chasing an owl away from the creek and up into the trees....as if to say, "Hey, I'm fishing here!"
I've frequently observed/photographed the owls catching/eating crayfish and even small trout in the creek. The kingfishers are always around, but this was this first confrontation I've witnessed.
