I arrived at Mt Adams late last night and camped near Horseshoe Lake which is about 7mi past Takhlakh Lake on FR2329. The area is accessed via Trout Lake from the south. First thing in the morning, I checked the area along the access road to the lake that had Spruce Grouse some years ago, but didn't find any. Birding was decent, with 2 Golden-crowned Sparrows on the north side of Horseshoe Lake and 3 very active Three-toed Woodpeckers on the west side of the lake, about 150yds south of trail 115, being the highlights.
The thunderstorms throughout the area last night sparked a wildfire on the SW side of the mountain (see http://www.katu.com/news/local/Lightning-sparks-wildfire-near-Mt-Adams-169099716.html). I left the area at around 10am because of it, so it ended up being a short birding day.
