RARE BIRD ALERT for a HUDSONIAN GODWIT at Blaine, WA on September 7; one or
two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS seen repeatedly at the 72nd Street turf farm in
Delta; a female RUFF seen near the foot of 96th Street in Delta from August
30 to September 2; and a MAGNOLIA WARBLER near the west end of Burnaby Lake
on August 29th.







Sightings for Sunday, September 9th



Two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were seen again with KILLDEER at the Instant
Lawns turf farm on the west side of 72nd Street in Delta.



Along the Boundary Bay foreshore in Delta between 96th and 104th Streets, a
RED KNOT, an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, and a FRANKLIN'S GULL were seen.



A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER and a STILT SANDPIPER were seen in the "west field"
at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta.



Another PARASITIC JAEGER, 4 COMMON TERNS, and a WHIMBREL were seen at
Brunswick Point in Delta.





Sightings for Friday, September 7th



At different times during the day, a HUDSONIAN GODWIT and a juvenile
FRANKLIN'S GULL were seen on the mudflats along Marine Drive in Blaine, WA.





Sightings for Thursday, September 6th



Another AMERICAN REDSTART was reported from the Maplewood Conservation Area
in North Vancouver.





Sightings for Wednesday, September 5th



A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was seen again at the Maplewood Conservation Area,
probably not the same one that was there in late August. Also in the area
were a NASHVILLE WARBLER and a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.





Sightings for Tuesday, September 4th



A WESTERN KINGBIRD was noted at the Maplewood Conservation Area in North
Vancouver.



A PARASITIC JAEGER was seen at Crescent Beach in Surrey, and nearby at Elgin
Heritage Park were 17 EVENING GROSBEAKS.



Four AMERICAN KESTRELS seen along Bates Road near Township Line Road in the
Matsqui area of Abbotsford was a high number for the area.





Sightings for Monday, September 3rd



A PARASITIC JAEGER and a RUDDY TURNSTONE were seen at Brunswick Point, near
the west end of River Road in Delta.



A GREEN HERON was seen in the 6900 block of Bradner Road in Abbotsford.





Sightings for Sunday, September 2nd



The female RUFF was seen for the fourth day running near the foot of 96th
Street on Boundary Bay in Delta. Nearby were a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER, a
STILT SANDPIPER, a PARASITIC JAEGER, and 10 HORNED LARKS.



A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE at Burnaby Lake was unusual





Sightings for Saturday, September 1st



An AMERICAN REDSTART at the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver
was noteworthy.



Birds of note seen along the Boundary Bay shoreline near 96th and 104th
Streets included the continuing RUFF, a PARASITIC JAEGER, an AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER, and a RED KNOT. In a field just west of the foot of 104th
Street were a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and 4 HORNED LARKS.





Sightings for Friday, August 31st



Shorebirds seen along the shoreline of Boundary Bay from 104th Street west
to 88th Street included an early juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER, the same
RUFF seen yesterday, a RED KNOT, and 2 STILT SANDPIPERS.





Sightings for Thursday, August 30th



A female RUFF (Reeve) was found near the foot of 96th Street on Boundary Bay
in Delta. Nearby were 2 STILT SANDPIPERS and an immature FRANKLIN'S GULL,
and the BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was seen again at the turf farm on the west
side of 72nd Street.



At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary were 5 STILT SANDPIPERS and 10 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS.





Sightings for Wednesday, August 29th



A MAGNOLIA WARBLER, an extremely rare migrant, was seen well near Burnaby
Lake, near the turnoff from Sperling Avenue to the rowing complex.





Sightings for Tuesday, August 28th



An early flock of 30 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE was seen flying south over
Boundary Bay Regional Park in Delta.



Birds seen at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta included a RUDDY TURNSTONE,
5 STILT SANDPIPERS, 6 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and 2 CACKLING GEESE which have
been present all summer.



The BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was seen again at the turf farm west of 72nd
Street in Delta, and 20 BANK SWALLOWS were at Iona Island.





Sightings for Monday, August 27th



Two RUDDY TUNSTONES were seen at Boundary Bay Regional Park in Delta, and
another one was photographed on the south jetty of Iona Island in Richmond.



Another GREEN HERON was seen at the pond in Elgin Heritage Park, Surrey.





Sightings for Sunday, August 26th



A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, the first sighting of the year for this rare
species, was found on the turf farm west of 72nd Street and south of
Churchill Street in Delta.



Three GREEN HERONS were seen along DeBouville Slough in Coquitlam, and 7
COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were nearby over Minnekhada Regional Park.





Sightings for Saturday, August 25



An AMERICAN REDSTART was seen along with many other migrants at the
Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver.





Sightings for Friday, August 24th



The BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was reported again from the Maplewood
Conservation Area in North Vancouver.





Sightings for Thursday, August 23rd



Another RUDDY TURNSTONE turned up at the "second lagoon" in Boundary Bay
Regional Park in Delta.





Sightings for Wednesday, August 22nd



A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER at the Maplewood Conservation Area in North
Vancouver was quite unusual.





Sightings for Monday, August 20th



Two RUDDY TURNSTONES on Boundary Bay near 104th Street were noteworthy.
Nearby, 7 STILT SANDPIPER were near the pumping station west of the foot of
96th Street.



A loose group of 25 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS seen in flight over the Port Coquitlam
side of Colony Farm Regional Park was a very high number.





Sightings for Sunday, August 19th



Another NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was seen by two observers at the Maplewood
Conservation Area in North Vancouver.



Birds seen near the foot of 96th Street on Boundary Bay in Delta included 3
STILT SANDPIPERS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, and a
PARASITIC JAEGER.



A count of 70 BANK SWALLOWS at Iona Island was easily the highest ever for
Vancouver.





Sightings for Saturday, August 18th



A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was caught and banded at Colony Farm Regional Park in
Port Coquitlam.





Sightings for Friday, August 17th



A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen at Boundary Bay Regional Park in Delta.



Just off the Duffey Lake Road (Highway 99) between Pemberton and Lillooet,
in the Coast Range north of Vancouver, 4 WHITE-TAILED PTARMIGAN and a
GRAY-CROWNED ROSY FINCH were seen on Gotcha Peak, and another rosy finch on
nearby Gott Peak.





Sightings for Thursday, August 16th



A BLACK-HEADED GULL, very rare in BC, was found and photographed at Porpoise
Bay near Sechelt, on the Sunshine Coast just north of Vancouver.





Sightings for Wednesday, August 15th



Noteworthy shorebirds at Iona Island in Richmond included a STILT SANDPIPER,
35 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, and 15 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS. Meanwhile, at the
Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta were 5 STILT SANDPIPERS, 9 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES and 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES. Four WHIMBRELS and 4 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS were seen along the Tsawwassen ferry jetty, and 20 more
BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were on Boundary Bay near 96th Street in Delta.





Sightings for Monday, August 13th



A PARASITIC JAEGER was reported just off the Tsawwassen ferry terminal in
Delta.





Sightings for Saturday, August 11th



Birds seen at the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver included a
GREEN HERON, 6 TURKEY VULTURES, 4 OSPREYS, 2 VIRGINIA RAILS, and at least 36
PURPLE MARTINS.



At Grant Narrows and vicinity, at the south end of Pitt Lake, 6 OSPREYS, 5
EASTERN KINGBIRDS, a GRAY CATBIRD, and a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE were reported.
