I just got back from Eide Road where as Michael
Willison reported there were bot a Ruff and a
Sharp Tailed Sandpiper. Several of us saw the
birds in perfect light and conditions in the first
pond in from the parking area. They were with a
single Greater Yellowlegs and 2+ Pectoral
Sandpipers (probably as many as 7 later at the
more western pond. The Ruff, Sharp Tailed and
Pectoral were often in the same field of vision
giving fabulous comparative studies. Two
observations were that the Sharp Tailed was larger
than the Pectoral and the Ruff was in addition to
being significantly larger than both of them,
seemed also to be "quite large". We watched the
birds for perhaps 45 minutes when they flew off to
the west. We did not see them again, but this had
happened earlier and they returned. Otherwise the
birds were incredibly cooperative affording super
photo ops.
