Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 13. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On September 8 a juvenile MAGNOLIA WARBLER and a juvenile CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER were seen on the Bayocean Peninsula at Tillamook Bay. That day an
UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen along Hwy 78 about six miles southeast of Burns.
At Malheur NWR Headquarters during the week were a female BROAD-TAILED
HUMMINGBIRD, PALM WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, OVENBIRD, TENNESSEE WARBLER,
and two BLACKP0LL WARBLERS.

Heavy migrations during the week included BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS, a
major movement of SWAINSON?S THRUSHES September 7, and swarms of
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS east of the Cascades. GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS and FOX
SPARROWS are now increasing also.

On September 11 at least ten COMMON TERNS were seen among over 1200 ELEGANT
TERNS at Gold Beach. That day two BLACK SWIFTS were near Pistol River and a
SABINE?S GULL at Bandon. A CASSIN?S FINCH and two LESSER GOLDFINCHES were in
the Coos County Coast Range east of Coquille September 5. The next day about
30 ELEGANT TERNS were at Coos Bay. Ten COMMON TERNS were there the next day.
On September 6 a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER and an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER were
on the North Spit of Coos Bay. On September 11 a BLACKPOLL WARBLER, a BLACK
SWIFT, and two LAPLAND LONGSPURS were among the many migrants on Cascade
Head. A SABINE?S GULL was seen September 6 on the Columbia River east of
Astoria. On September 10 a BOBOLINK and two LAPLAND LONGSPURS were at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River.

On September 10 a FERRUGINOUS HAWK was at Ridgefield NWR. On Sauvie Island
September 6 were over 250 WHITE PELICANS and three SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS.
That day two SANDERLINGS were at Broughton Beach near the Portland Airport.
On September 9 a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at Ankeny NWR south of Salem.
Eight BOBOLINKS were see September 10 at Finley NWR. On September 8 about
4300 VAUX?S SWIFTS were at the Agate Hall roost in Eugene. A SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPER was seen September 9 at Fern Ridge Reservoir. A PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVER was at the Philomath Sewage Ponds September 6.

On September 9 about 1840 VAUX?S SWIFTS were at the main roost in Bend. A
HERMIT WARBLER was seen September7 near Bend. On September 6 three HERRING
GULLS and 3200 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at the Narrow in Malheur NWR.
