While the idea of an app that can identify birdsong by listening to them, much like the app Shazam for music, I suspect it will be a long time before such technology is available. My understand is that Shazam doesn't actually recognize the song, but rather a string of 0's and 1's running in a continuous loop during the song - so it can recognize CDs and MP3s, but I suspect it'd be unsuccessful with records or casettes. Cool in its own right, but wouldn't help with birdsong.
