Hey tweets, Yesler Swamp along Surber Drive was really popping today.
Red-breasted Nuthatches were "yank-yanking" from all directions, as
they told each other about the large pine trees bursting with food in
the neighborhood. A Black-headed Grosbeak got the message and showed
up to hog a big branch loaded with cones all to himself. Warbling
Vireos were whizzing around like giant flies, and every leaf seemed to
have a Bushtit or a Black-capped Chickadee hanging from it. A late
Osprey (from NOAA, Magnuson Park probably) floated overhead on its way
to Water Lily Cove, I suspect, where it was hang-gliding over the
water yesterday, hoping for fish. In Yesler Cove were a collection of
Green-winged Teals, Mallards, Gadwalls, Northern Pintails, and
Northern Shovelers, all peacefully upending themselves amid the
constant noise of construction surrounding us.

A visually stunning day but auditorially challenging. The Fill, while
always lovely, has not been the most peaceful place lately, what with
bridge work across the lake, stadium work to the southwest, track work
west, artificial turf work north, street work on the borders, home
remodeling, building refinishing, and Mr. Model Helicopter Man
contributing his mite. Nature in the city does come with its
