Thanks to Kathy and Arn Slettebak for reporting the LEWO. They were still present at 6:00pm this evening in the same area. This is a pedestrian only area that can be accessed from the South Parking lot by following the Loop Trail to the Sand Dunes. Once at the dunes take the smaller trail to the right. This trail (fondly known as Bird Alley) runs north east to and through the grove of large conifers. The woodpeckers are in the conifer grove and continue to use the dogwood (in bloom and berry), the Douglas fir with the snag top and a Western Hemlock just west along the fence line. All trees mentioned are on the west side of the trail. This area can also be accessed from the North Parking Lot walking south on Kansas Ave. to the intersection with Discovery Park Boulevard (formerly Utah Avenue). The "Bird Alley" trail is on the south side of Discovery Park Boulevard just to the right or west of the Quartermaster's Building(across from the historic stables).

A map and directions can also be found at the front desk of the Discovery Park Visitor Center.
