Diann,

It appears that you are not using eBird to keep track of Turkey Vulture sightings in Washington. If you aren't, then you should be! There are dozens of sightings reported during August in different parts of Washington. You can bring up a map onscreen for a county (e.g. King County) that shows the locations of all TUVU sightings ever reported to eBird, then you can pan from that map to look at other parts of the state. Sightings made in the last 30 days appear in red on the map, while older sightings appear in blue. So if you look at the map on September 1, nearly all the August sightings will appear as red markers. You can then click on the location marker to get the details of each sighing (date, number of birds, observer). This mapping feature of eBird is extremely useful for anyone wishing to keep track of recent sightings of ANY of the less common species in any area.

Hi, Tweets

I was going to send out an August report of turkey vultures, but I have none so will wait and do one for September. Luckily, I have a few for September. Be sure and look up and about in September. That is the main migration month for turkey vultures heading south. Often large flocks pass by over Seattle and nearby areas.
It's always exciting to see a hundred or so of these large birds slowly heading south. Much easier to count than the tiny Vaux's swift.

Cheers, Diann
