Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 20. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On September 13 a CRESTED CARACARA was reported along Hwy 97 just south of
Chemult. On September 17 a COMMON GROUND DOVE was photographed near Cape
Blanco. A HOODED WARBLER was seen that day at Lone Ranch Wayside north of
Brookings. On September 16 a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH and a TENNESSEE WARBLER
were at Roaring Springs Ranch south of Frenchglen. A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was
there September 19. On September 15 a MAGNOLIA WARBLER and two REDSTARTS
were at Rome. A VIRGINIA?S WARBLER was at Lake Abert September 13. A
possible RED-NECKED STINT was seen September 12 at Fern Ridge Reservoir. On
September 18 two BROAD-WINGED HAWKS passed the Bonney Butte Hawkwatch
Station. On September 15 two SCRIPPS?S MURRELETS were photographed 20 miles
west of Newport.

EVENING GROSBEAKS, VARIED THRUSHES, and PINE SISKINS are increasing west of
the Cascades. The first CACKLING GEESE of the fall arrived during the week.
Huge numbers of SOOTY SHEARWATERS are now passing along the coast with
hundreds moving into the lower Columbia River and in Yaquina Bay. On
September 16 a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER, 1100 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 1400
LEAST SANDPIPERS were at bandon Marsh. On September 11 an eclipsed plumage
EURASIAN WIGEON was at North Bend. Several hundred ELEGANT TERNS continue at
Gold Beach. On September 19 three POMARINE JAEGERS and one PARASITIC JAEGER
were harassing the ELEGANTS at Brookings. On September 18 a RUFF was at the
Astoria Airport Wetlands.

On September 18 a SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at Ridgefield NWR. A FRANKLIN?S
GULL was seen that day at the ?wash? on Sauvie Island. SANDHILL CRANES are
now arriving on Sauvie Island and Ridgefield NWR. A FRANKLIN?S GULL and
SABINE?S GULL were at Smith/Bybee Lakes September 19. On September 23,
43,000 BARN SWALLOWS were at their Grand Island Roost south of Dayton. A
SWAINSON?S HAWK was south of Peoria September 16. That day a PACIFIC LOON
was on Big Lake in Santiam Pass. Four CASPIAN TERNS were at Diamond Lake
September 18.

A survey at Lake Abert September 14 found a WHIMBREL, a STILT SANDPIPER,
9565 avocets, 35,875 PALAROPES, 36,120 EARED GREBES, and 32,825 SHOVELERS.
