Hi Tweets,

this Wednesday we had a survey day with the USGS. The main group of
birders did the regular walk, a small group birded the south dike, and I
birded the old dike footprint and reach from the boat. We had a High 13'2"
Tide at 8:44am with cloudy skies and temperatures in the 50's to 60's
degrees Fahrenheit.

Visitor Center Pond Overlook: Ring-necked Duck, Wood Duck and Common
Yellowthroat.

Twins Barn Loop Trail: Canada Goose, Red-tailed Hawk, Band-tailed Pigeon,
Anna's Hummingbird, Downy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Steller's Jay,
Black-capped Chickadee, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Bushtit, Brown Creeper,
Bewick's Wren, Pacific Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, American Robin,
Spotted Towhee, Fox Sparrow, Song Sparrow and Red Crossbill.

Twin Barns Observation Platform: Gadwall, Cinnamon Teal, Northern Harrier,
Cooper's Hawk, Rock Pigeon, Vaux's Swift, Lincoln Sparrow, White-crowned
Sparrow, and Golden-crowned Sparrow.

Nisqually Estuary Trail and Nisqually Estuary Boardwalk Trail: American
Wigeon, Mallard, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Double-crested
Cormorant, Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Semipalmated
Plover, Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs, Western Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper,
Ring-billed Gull, Glaucous-winged Gull, Caspian Tern, American/Northwestern
Crow, Common Raven, Tree Swallow, Violet-green Swallow, Barn Swallow, Marsh
Wren, American Pipit, Savannah Sparrow, and Red-winged Blackbird.

South Dike: Hooded Merganser, Merlin - eating Barn Swallow.

Boat Survey of old dike foot print and Nisqually Reach: Common Loon, Horned
Grebe, Western Gull, California Gull, Glaucous-winged X Western Gull
Hybrid, and Rhinoceros Auklet.

Hoffman Hill Trail: Western Wood-Pewee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, and
Swainson's Thrush.

Highlights included Lincoln Sparrow, many American Pipits moving through
and a Merlin eating a Barn Swallow.

71 species for the day, with 171 species for the year.
