I drove my son and a few other kids on his ultimate Frisbee team to a game
yesterday afternoon at Maplewood Playfield, near Cleveland High School, and
ambled around the field while they warmed up. I scared up four of what I
thought at first glimpse were tiny spotted sandpipers, when they landed and
bobbed their behinds, before everything clicked and I realized: pipits. I've
never seen them inside the Seattle city limits before.
