>just back from overnight trip to Cape Disappointment (Washington side of mouth of Columbia River). yesterday evening 9/20 between about 5pm and 6pm visited the jetty area, and just north of the jetty were?a huge number of?Sooty Shearwaters just beyond the breakers,?mostly moving ?north, and a large swarm of birds including pelicans, shearwaters, cormorants stayed to the north for awhile, then dispersed, and?then steady stream of sooties started moving south. took pictures, but could not figure out how to do video, Dawn?in Lincoln City has a link to great video that will give you an idea of how?swarms of?sooties look, really is a sight. and today visited other areas of the park, after?hiking in from Beards Hollow trail?saw many long strings of Brown pelicans, often flocks of 20 to 30+, flock after flock moving?southward in the?early afternoon.
