What is the current range of the yellow-shafted northern flicker??? I have read that it is the?eastern and midwestern US with yellow-shafted/red-shafted hybrids appearing?along the eastern edge of the Rockies from SE Alaska to northern Texas.

The reason I ask is that in June of 2011, I photographed a male yellow-shafted/red-shafted hybrid (red malar, red "V" on the back of its neck)?at the?Pt. Edwards walkway and?nearby Willow Creek fish hatchery in Edmonds.???Today (Friday, 9/21/12) I may have?met?that?flicker's?parents, as I photographed a female red-shafted (no red "V") and a male yellow-shafted (black malar, red "V")? flying and perching together?in the same?location.???

Is the yellow-shafted male way out of its range or has?its range?shifted west over the years?
