Hi Tweeters,

I spent today (9/22/12) birding Cowlitz County with Becky Kent, Rachel
Perry and Anne Kahle. We started at the Mint Farm and walked in to the Pond
on the west side of Weber Ave. where we found 4 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 3
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS & 4 WILSON'S SNIPE. We then walked out to the
mitigation pond and found a GREATER YELLOWLEGS as well as a late-ish
WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE. The seven species of sparrows seen included FOX &
GOLDEN-CROWNED as well as 10 LINCOLN SPARROWS with at least that many
more Lincoln's heard only. Also present were 2 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS.

The Longview STP had a WESTERN SANDPIPER & 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS enjoying the
mud in the northwest corner.

There was a single RUDDY DUCK near the boat launch at Coldwater Lake.

Along Paine Road we had a flock of 7 GRAY JAYS troop across the road.

One of our primary targets for the day was Northern Pygmy Owl (a county
bird, county year bird, or lifer for each of us) - in spite of making many
stops on the route from Castle Rock to Coldwater Lake with numerous side
trips we recieved no response to our tooting. A fine day of birding even
with this major miss. Still a fine day of birding and companions.
