I'm planning a trip to the Yucatan in November and am looking for suggestions on places to go and stay. We'll stay 5 or 6 days and I hope to spend as much time as possible birding but, alas, will have to compromise some since my family will be with me. :-) We're open to moving around some, possibly with a rental car, or staying in one place that's a good base for trips to birding spots, Mayan ruins and other places of cultural interest. We don't need luxury accommodations but, because we'll have kids, we'd like to either stay in a place with some fun stuff (pool, beach) or be close enough to fun kid stuff that we can get there quickly. If anyone has recommendations for a local guide that would be great too. Someone who knows the birds but also flora/fauna, history etc. would be ideal. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.
