The meadows started out chilly and very foggy, only dissipating when the
sun climbed substantially. But, with no wind and otherwise clear and mild
conditions, birding was pretty good.

Today was clearly a sparrow day: dozens of Fox, Lincoln's, Savannah,
Golden-crowned and White-crowned all over the park. Except for the many
Yellow-rumped Warblers (Audubon's), just one or two Orange-crowned and
Townsend's Warblers. Swainson's Thrush were still flying over early (at
least 5 or 6), calling; some landed in the meadows and continued with their
churr call.

Marsh Wrens continue to increase; they appear to have finally populated the
park, clearly an outcome of more wetlands. Several Pacific Wrens were seen
on Promontory Point. A Varied Thrush was also heard on the point, and a
Brown Creeper was singing loudly in the same area.

No new ducks this week, but the presence of two immature Cooper's Hawks
squawking at each other in the wetlands may have had an affect. Ring-billed
and California Gulls continue to roost on the swim platform while several
Glaucous-wing Gulls were fly-overs. New for the season were a couple of
Horned Grebes and a Cackling Goose mixed in with the Canada flock.
