fishing pier:
?The common murre continues to hang out around the fishing pier.?? It's left wing is damaged and I don't know whether it can fly or dive.? A pigeon guillemot in non-breedng plumage was floating on the water a ways out.? I did not see Hank's coot, but he told me about it later that afternoon at the marsh.

Yost Park:
?
No luck?finding the barred owl,?but I did see a?first of season (for me) varied thrush and fox sparrow.???A lady walking her dog was kind enough to tell me?that she saw a pileated woodpecker on a stump at the parking lot.? While photographing it, I tried to capture the?wood chips flying out of the cavity as the woodpecker dug away.? The inside of the cavity?must have been very soft as the chips were small and there was none of the pileated's characteristic loud hammering sound.?
?
This must be my lucky month.? I can?go for over a year without seeing a pileated woodpecker,?but this?was my second sighting in less than a week.
