I know this is WAY out of the area, and my excuse for posting this is because I'm from WA, follow Tweeters and am just so darn excited! A COMMON CUCKOO was spotted this morning in some willows in Watsonville, CA by members of the Santa Cruz Bird Club on their weekly Friday outing. It went out on MBB and birders from the entire Bay Area and further afield are converging there. We had several hours of fantastic views of the juvenile bird. Supposedly, this is the first record in the lower 48. The Western Field Ornithologists just happen to be meeting this weekend in Petaluma, and are apparently all in cars and battling traffic to get to Watsonville.
