On my third attempt in about as many years, I finally saw four White-tailed
Ptarmigan at the Fremont lookout tower at Sunrise today (reports were of six
earlier). They never moved more than about half a meter in the 20 mins I was
there, remaining motionless in the shade. Despite their obvious whiteness,
they were superbly camouflaged. Luckily for me, this was the first time I
hiked in with my 500mm.
