hello everyone,

did anyone see today's Google Doodle? It features a lovely painting by
one of my favourite scientific illustrators, Maria Sibylla Merian. I
mention this here because a story that I wrote about this fabulous
artist/scientist has topped the traffic for the entire Guardian site
today:

story: http://gu.com/p/3epdk/tw

traffic: http://flic.kr/p/e87i4P

Considering that there is plenty of sports and other events competing
for the public's limited time, attention and brainspace, it's just
incredibly gratifying to see that right now, at this particular moment
in time, a story about this fabulous artist/naturalist/scientist has
topped the traffic metrics at one of the top international
English-language news sites. (And this story was written by a
scientist, not by a professional journalist.)

trees,
