Tweeters,

Its been an amazing day of on and off yard birding this morning down in
Battle Ground as follows:

Long-eared Owl - calling at 1:20am
Western Screech Owl - calling at 1:30am
American Bittern - flyby at about 7:30am - good to see it's returned to the
neighborhood
Osprey - first of season
American Goldfinch - first of season
Pileated Woodpecker - only once or twice a year
White-breasted Nuthatch
Greater Yellowlegs
Wood Duck
American Wigeon
Red Crossbill'
Evening Grosbeak
Pine Siskin

Last week, highlights were:

Double-crested Cormorant - a flock of 5 overhead. Last seen from the yard
two years ago
White-crowned Sparrow - for some reason, I don't get many zonos
American Kestrel - 3 pairs within a mile of the house but this one was a
migrant. I hardly ever get an AMKE from the yard.

Keep your eyes and ears skyward.

Jim
