Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday April 11. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

The COMMON EIDER continues to be seen. The TUFTED DUCK on the Columbia River
east of Portland is still in the area. The Northeast Portland OVENBIRD was
seen again April 10.

The sparrows continue along Rentenaar Road on Sauvie Island including the
HARRIS?S SPARROW. A CASSIN?S VIREO was on Mt. Tabor in Portland April 10.
CHIPPING SPARROWS are now increasing in the state. There were several
reports of early WESTERN TANAGERS. Two VAUX?S SWIFTS were in Eugene April
10.

On April 7, 400 SOOTY SHEARWATERS and one PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATER were off
Cape Arago near Coos Bay. A EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was seen April 6 at
Millicoma Marsh near Coos Bay. On April 3 a ?RED? FOX SPARROW was at Heceta
Beach north of Florence. A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was near Elkton April 8. The
Barview Jetty SNOW BUNTING was seen again April 7. On April 5 a lone TUFTED
PUFFIN flew onto Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach. That day about 3500 SURF
SCOTERS were off the North Jetty of the Columbia River. On April 6 a group
of seven WHITE PELICANS were on the Columbia River east of Astoria.

On April 3 a group of 12 GREAT EGRETS were in Scappoose Bottoms. On April 4
a BREWER?S SPARROW was near the Troutdale Airport and a LONG-BILLED CURLEW
was near the Portland Airport. A fresh dead CASSIN?S AUKLET was found April
10 at Mt. Tabor Park in Portland. Three TUNDRA SWANS were seen April 4 at
Oaks Bottom in southeast Portland. On April 9 a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was in
Hillsboro. An early RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was at the Philomath Sewage Ponds
April 6. On April 9 about 300 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were near St. Paul. An
adult SWAINSON?S HAWK was photographed March 29 at Fern Ridge Reservoir. On
April 8 a group of three female RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS were near Grants
Pass. A CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was near Grants Pass April 9.

A CASPIAN TERN was at Hood River April 3. A BLUE-WINGED TEAL was near
Pendleton April 7, SWAINSON?S HAWKS were also seen that day. On April 4 a
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was back at Calliope Crossing north of Sisters. A
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was seen April 9 at the Redmond Sewage Ponds.
