On Tuesday?my wife and I returned from a 23 day, 3000 mile road trip that took us as far south as the Colusa NWR in northern California.? I estimate that those miles were about evenly split between travel miles and birding miles.? We probably walked about 65 miles during this trip.? We went to Ellensburg and then south through Bend Oregon and Klamath Falls into northern CA.? We returned to Klamath Falls because the birding in that area was so good and then worked our way to the Oregon coast at Newport.??We had no plan when we left and each evening or the next morning decided where we would head that day, if anywhere, based on Tweeters posts, eBird data and weather forecasts.? Between birding, organizing photos, posting to eBird and journaling we often were at it for 18 hours a day.? It was a great experience.??We birded 22 of the 23 days.? For two days on the Oregon coast it was like being in a car wash to quote my wife, but we still managed
to bird from the car?and?between downpours.? We also visited some excellent coffee shops and bookstores.? Other than those two days we had excellent weather.? We are not ace birders, so our list?of birds may not be?that impressive, but we had a great time, met some interesting people and saw many birds that got our adrenaline pumping.?

Attaching a list of birds makes this post too long for Tweeters, but for anyone who is interested I can e-mail a list with the locations seen.? There were many birding highlights, but maybe the best was seeing grebes walk on?the waters of Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon.?
